adrianne smith floral design branding by delphine

I absolutely loved designing the branding for Adrianne Smith Floral Design. Adrianne is one of the sweetest people around. When she came over to pick up her new business cards she brought homemade pesto, made from basil and peppery arugula. From her own garden, no less. Mmmm.

To match the natural style of her floral designs, I went with a toned down green, brown and taupe color palette and pulled in some linen and canvas textures. Another reason we went with green and brown is that the natural palette will complement all photos of her work.

Adrianne picked out the gorgeous 18th century botanical illustration, which adds a bit of romance and drama to the design. We wanted to keep the entire look and feel on the casual side (A is a “no foofy stuff” kind of gal), so the typographic logo has a hand stamped look, inspired by the markings on wood wine crates.

Still to come: her ad materials, updating her blog, tweaking the website, avatars, postcards, and other fun goodies.

sullivan's island wedding invitation

Sullivan’s Island is one of my favorite floral wedding invitation designs. It’s not one of our most popular, but I still love it. I was inspired by the sweet butterflies and pretty wild flowers along the sand dunes. Every time someone orders it I am reminded of walks along the beach on the South Carolina coast, where I consider home.

trend i love: chevrons

I just can’t get enough of the zig-zag o-riffic CHEVRON trend. I am counting down the days and saving my pennies for the Missoni for Target collection next month. I call dibs on any tote bags at the Encinitas store!

Just released: our brand new pennant flags for drinking straws. Available only through authorized Delphine dealers. I just love how they add a punch of color to a tray of drinks.

new wedding invitation album ships today!

I am so thriilled to announce that today, after printing 25,000 samples, gluing 15,000 pages, hand setting 2,000 grommets and suffering a couple of paper cuts, our brand new Signature Collection wedding invitation album ships to stores!

The new wedding invitation album has 22 designs, many of which are brand new, like our Chevron wedding invitation design.

At Delphine we love color! Each of our 22 designs is available in any of our more than 50 standard ink colors.

New: PENNANTS! I’m sooo excited about our brand new product: pennant flags for drinking straws. Right now they are only available through stores who are authorized Delphine dealers. Besides the pennants, each Delphine wedding invitation design has matching stickers, coasters, and address labels.

I’m really excited about one of our new designs, Lace. In the book, we show it in “Delphine” green and “cloud” gray ink. I especially like the pretty lace patterned envelope liner.

We designed the album with retailers in mind … each book comes with a separate dealer deck, with giant swatches of all our paper, envelope and liner colors. Dealers also get a bag of samples for display and a disc with a downloadable order form and promo images.

There are only 8 left! If you’d like to order one please get in touch with us at the studio.

inspired by lovely lace + big partnership news!

Lately I’ve been exploring softer, more romantic designs. A random paper doily found in the bottom of a kitchen drawer inspired the new romantic lace doily wedding invitation I designed for Wedding Paper Divas.

That’s right! In addition to all the new designs we’re releasing this month in our new Delphine wedding album, we’re also launching a partnership with Tiny Prints and Wedding Paper Divas! I’m super excited about this new partnership. We worked with the Tiny Prints folks to help design a new hybrid letterpress-digital wedding invitation.

What does that mean? Well, the design-y part (in this case, the doily motif) is letterpressed on pretty cotton paper, and the text (the part you customize) is printed flat/digitally. My collection of Delphine for Wedding Paper Divas wedding invitations launched with a few designs last month. Check back often, as the collection will be filling out soon.

A few reasons for the radio silence around here: We’re finishing up the new Delphine wedding invitation album — working on assembling the dealer decks now (hitting stores any day now), and we’re busy taking photos of our new designs, including Carnival, Lace, and Watercolor Stripes.

july

We’re a little more than a week into July and it’s really starting to feel like summer. We have the luxury of a pool at our place, and I’m taking full advantage this year. I even picked up a pair of floats with drinkholders and attached squirt guns, for some fierce battles.

sneak peek: the new delphine wedding invitation album

I know, I know … I’ve been MIA. Though technically this is our off season, I’m busier than ever. Since returning from NSS it has just been project after meeting after project after rush job after photoshoot after quick trip after project! On top of it all, we’ve had lots of house guest this Spring and Summer, which makes me extremely happy, but something had to give: the blog. Sorry, everyone! Thought I’d sneak in a super quick post, though, to show you a sneak peek at our brand new wedding album. It is a ton of work to put one of these babies together. To start, I designed about a dozen new suites! In less than 6 weeks! Now we’re in the assembly stage, which is exciting. If you’re thinking of ordering an album now is the time!

branded by delphine: mediterranean cruise

This is one of the more unusual logo projects I’ve ever done. A regular client is headed off for a big birthday celebration private cruise with her husband and their friends, and she wanted a logo to help brand the trip. I had a lot of fun doing the research, and came up with an anchor as the main theme for the logo. I incorporated classic nautical hues: navy blue, foul weather gear yellow, and squid ink black, as well as a fun bright yellow stripe pattern.

I found some fabulous nautical tote bags, complete with painted rubber bases and real rope handles, at Lands End, and had the logo embroidered onto them. Of course we had to embroider the logo onto a few beach towels and terry cloth shirts for all the guests, too.

Watch out, Marina. I may stow away yet!

we're hiring design, marketing and photography interns

Delphine is a stationery and gift company, as well as a graphic design studio. We’re looking for a few awesome Spring and Summer interns to assist with design & product development; advertising & marketing; and photography.

If you love paper, are into design, like blogs, know how to work a mac/illustrator/photoshop, know the difference between stationery and stationary, would like to learn about running a small biz/marketing/pr/letterpress, and can commit to 8 hours per week for ten weeks, then please visit our website for more details on specific internship opportunities at the Delphine studio.

We’re located in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Applicants must have transportation to/from Rancho Santa Fe. All internships are unpaid, but we promise you’ll learn a ton (and will pick up some sweet stationery along the way). Many of our former interns come back to do freelance work for us after completing their internship.

We have three basic internships available: GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERN, ADVERTISING & MARKETING INTERN, and PHOTOGRAPHY INTERN.

For more information and to apply, please visit the Internship page on our website.

seed packages designed by delphine for isabella smith

These seed packet packaging designs were one of my favorite projects of all time. Pretty flowers, spring colors, clean design, interesting type (all in Danish) and the most lovely client you could imagine all combined! So far I’ve designed 22 varieties. They’re available in Isabella Smith Country Store shops and catalog, and on the Isabella Smith website.

Seed packages designed by Erika Firm of Delphine for Isabella Smith.

UPDATE: Isabella just sent over this photo from their latest photo shoot for their Spring catalog:
