crafting with kids: valentines

One of my most treasured childhood memories is making Valentines with my best friend in first grade. I can still visualize the pink construction paper hearts and the pots of paste.

This year my son is in first grade, and his class is planning a “friendship day” Valentine’s Day party, complete with exchanging of cards. I was super thrilled about the idea, and set aside an entire afternoon to make all the cards with him. I wrote all about it on Mom Inc. Don't you love these buttons? I have never been able to throw a button away ... and sometimes I even buy them for no reason whatsoever other than that I like the color. I used these in our recent photo shoot (photo by Vallentyne Photography).

handmade holiday ornaments

Since I signed up for a handmade holiday ornament exchange a few weeks ago I have been trying to decide what to make. I'm not quite sure what I'll make yet, but I'm fairly certain it will involve glitter! Last year I made a 3-d paper snowflake, and I may do that again. Or perhaps a paper cone filled with candy. I'd love to make some felt animal ornaments, but I think that would take too long and I need to make a bunch. Do you have any other ideas?
