sneak peek: new succulent wedding invitation design

Here’s a sneak peek at one of our newest designs: our SUCCULENT wedding invitation suite. It’s one of a dozen brand new designs in our new Delphine Signature Collection wedding album. We took inspiration from the aloe plants, agave plants and other succulents growing in the Delphine studio courtyard. I love how it looks in blues and greens. For some extra pop, it looks fun with a black backround.

root beer kegger part 6: 7th birthday party!

Our son just turned 7 and we had a Root Beer Kegger! See part 1 for the inspiration; part 2 for the color palette; part 3 for party decorations/inspiration; part 4 for root beer kegger food ideas; and part 5 for root beer party prep.

The Root Beer Kegger was super fun! The kids got all sugared up, played Legos until the entire city was destroyed (all in good fun), ran around the house like maniacs and had a great time. Of course I did the typical party host thing, and totally forgot to take photos. Many thanks to all our guests, who picked up my camera and snapped nearly all of these shots for me!

I know it sounds a little nutso, but we made two cakes. The chocolate frosted one at left is a gluten free vanilla cake with fresh strawberry filling (several of the guests have wheat allergies); the Bûche de Noël at right is my mom’s masterpiece. She used Grand Marnier to flavor the mascarpone frosting. Delicious!

The buffet table. The big empty plate at front is where the Paninis were placed. It’s crazy, but all of these props (the wood stump boxes, the cardboard 3-d stars, the owl, the acorns, the faux moss) I already had in my collection, props from my trade show days.

Favors for the kids: I found cute glass mugs, filled them with root beer barrel candies, and also gave each kid a bottle of root beer to take home. I tied a green and white striped paper straw, with their initial on the tag. Tip when preparing candy bags for kids: make sure each bag has EXACTLY the same number of candies in each bag, or tears may ensue. Photo at right is my breakfast treat day after the party: a root beer float. I was so busy chatting at the party I forgot to make myself one!

I created these custom root beer kegger birthday party invitations, along with the matching coasters, tags, place cards, flags, cake toppers, stickers, favor bag labels, etc. Lets just say I get carried away with paper stuff. Of course I forgot to take photos of most of these things! Whoopsie!

The kids, getting a heavy dose of sugar with root beer floats, before tackling the cake.

Morning after the kegger, he had the breakfast of champions: leftover root beer from the keg, and day old cake.

Overall, it was a great party. A few problems: invites got lost in the mail, took us a while to figure out how to operate the keg (stop snickering… it’s different from the ones we had in college. I swear), and I totally forgot to take photos. But everyone had a good time, especially the birthday boy, so this root beer kegger was a smashing success!

haute off the letterpress: custom moroccon invitation

One of our lovely clients, fresh from a trip to Morocco, asked us to design a birthday party invitation inspired by photos from her trip. We worked together to come up with the perfect palette: peacock and marine blue, paired with bright white 100 percent cotton paper. We toyed around with graphics of Fez hats, moroccon slippers and lamps, but decided upon the pitcher as it was the most festive looking. My favorite touch is the patterned liners.

posh engagement party

I saw this dress on sale on Leifsdotter and I immediatly envisioned it as the perfect dress for a posh engagement party. Someplace with a gorgeous view. Perhaps the Market Pavillion rooftop bar in Charleston, SC? I'd pair it with a bottle of Taittinger champagne.

real wedding: hibiscus letterpress invitations

Read the inside scoop on these fun mimosa yellow and blue letterpress Hibiscus invitations we printed for Jennie and Jeremy on Oh So Beautiful Paper. Jennie and Jeremy were contest winners about a year ago; their wedding is in a few days and I'm so excited for them!

sneak peek: alice in wonderland invitation

It has been so much fun working on this Alice In Wonderland-inspired wedding invitation design! Can’t wait to share the entire project.

UPDATE: See more photos here.

ANOTHER UPDATE:  WONDERLAND save the dates and WONDERLAND wedding invitations are live on our site.

in the press: InStyle Weddings

It is bittersweet to be included in the latest (and last ever) issue of InStyle Weddings magazine -- on newstands now. I'm so sad to see the magazine go, but am encouraged that I have heard from so many of my favorite editors there who have moved on to other fun jobs and projects. Thanks, InStyle Weddings, for the love. Miss you already!

real event: tessa's quinceanera

Here's a preview of a new design: Tessa. We created it for our dear friend's daughter in honor of her quinceanera. When Tessa told me she wanted crocus, celadon and lilac inks together I will admit I was a bit skeptical. But the 15 year old was right: it's a super pretty color combo!

real wedding: westport save the date

Here at Delphine we love it when brides (and grooms) make our designs their own. Altagracia and Casey customized our Westport design to create this western-themed save the date for their upcoming nuptials in Jackson, Wyoming. Using our fun customizer (preview in real time! instant gratification! yahoo!), they chose the Rope and Rose fonts and Chocolate and Blue inks. We digitally printed it, for super fast turnaround. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Can't wait to see what they order for their invites.

color palette: mai tai and grey

Great color combo: mai tai (creamy pinkish coral) and cloudy grey. So dreamy. Photo of the Delphine Ava design.

font love: nelly script

I met illustrator and calligrapher Crystal Kluge of Tart Workshop at the National Stationery Show last May and was blown away by her talent. She recently released a new set of fonts, based on her calligraphy, called Nelly Script and Nelly Script Flourish. Needless to say both fonts are now at the top of my studio supply wish list.

Here is how Tart Workshop describes their font: "Nelly is a beautiful yet sensible romantic ... she’s a bit formal but not stuffy and simply adores a lovely party." Indeed, I can totally see Nelly adorning a backyard garden party invitation, or a save the date announcement for a romantic afternoon tea.

real wedding: megan and casey

One of the best things about my job is getting to know lovely people like Megan and Casey. Last year about this time I was printing invitations for their August wedding. After their Big Day they shared their photos with me, and I'm so happy that their beautiful, beautiful wedding is featured on The Knot here so you all can see it, too. (photos by Thia Konig).

The final mockup (above) of the invites we designed printed for Megan and Casey, and a few pics of the final design (below). I had a great time designing these invites for them (and you can see that one of the motifs eventually turned into our Meeting Street design, which you can read about here and see here on our site).

our tenth wedding anniversary

Meeting Street design by delphine

We're celebrating in the delphine studio: today is my wedding anniversary! John and I were married ten years ago in Charleston, South Carolina on Meeting Street at the Circular Church; our reception was across the street at the lovely Mills House Hotel.

John and I would love to celebrate by offering $250 off and free matching place cards or info cards with your Meeting Street wedding invitation order.

Part of our brand new “Charleston Collection,” the Meeting Street design was named for the street where we were married in Charleston. The swirly motif is inspired by ironwork details on the famous balcony of the Mills House Hotel, where General Lee once had his headquarters during the Civil War; the double design elements evoke a sword arch formed by a dozen Marine Officers greeting a new bride (that was me!). It also works great for a seaside wedding, as the curves also look like waves.

Check out our newly updated website with new online ordering. You can view photos of the designs, get a quote, customize every piece instantly, preview and order online…it's pretty fun to use!

I love to see couples make our designs their own by customizing them for their own special day with just about any combination of inks, papers, envelopes, and fonts …. We don't have any pre-set color combinations or pre-printed stock; every piece is printed to order for each bride.

The code to enter upon checkout: ANNIVERSARY. Offer expires May 31, 2009. Offer applies to the Meeting Street design only.
